Having gone through one of the most difficult periods in its history in terms of economy and unable to prevent the departure of its biggest legend, Lionel Messi, from the team during the summer transfer period, Barcelona is preparing to take a giant step to improve its financial situation.
According to the news in Sport from the Spanish press, the Catalan team is in search of a loan.
President Joan Laporta will make a presentation on this quest this Wednesday alongside the club's CEO, Ferran Reverter, and Barcelona Digital Transformation Director Juan Manuel Tabernero.
On Sunday, December 19, 110,159 of the 142,038 members of the club will vote in the loan requirement referendum.
Voting will start at 09:00 in the morning and will last until 21:00 in the evening, and members of the Catalan team will be able to cast their votes from all over the world via the club's website.
If the project, called Espai Barça, is approved, the management will be given the opportunity to take out a loan of up to 1.5 billion euros, and Barcelona will be financially relieved.
Barcelona went to a referendum for a similar loan need in 2014 and the 600 million euro loan agreement was approved. If the biggest financial deal in the club's history is approved, 900 million euros will be used to renew the Camp Nou.
The debt of the loan, which is planned to be taken with a five-year grace period, will last for 35 years.
