France Football editor Pascal Ferre claimed that Cristiano Ronaldo's only goal was to win more Ballon d'Ors than Lionel Messi.
Currently in his second term at Manchester United, Ronaldo has won the Ballon d'Or five times throughout his career, but Messi, who has been compared for many years, has one more award than the Portuguese star.
Both stars are vying for the grand prize this year, and Ferre said Ronaldo tried to outshine Messi before ending his career.
The Ballon d'Or is awarded by France Football. Pascal Ferre, editor-in-chief of France Football, explained that at this stage of the Portuguese star's career, the Ballon d'Or award is more important than winning a trophy.
"Ronaldo has only one goal: to retire with more Ballon d'Or awards than Messi," Ferre told the New York Times.
"I know because he told me."
