Decisions made by UEFA meeting announced

The UEFA Board requested that the matches be completed in local leagues after the meeting it held today.

In order to determine the fate of leagues suspended due to the new type of coronavirus (Covid-19) outbreak, the UEFA Board of Directors held a meeting through videoconference.

Following the meeting, a statement was published on the official website of UEFA.

The statement asked for the seasons to be completed in the local leagues before the matches of UEFA organizations to be played in August.

The UEFA Executive Board also stated that it wants the leagues in Europe to continue, but ensuring the best health conditions is the first priority while carrying out this process. The decisions that came out of the meeting were formed as follows:

• - Local leagues should be completed if a suitable ground is provided for sports activities to continue. Otherwise, clubs may face big economic problems in the long run.
• - Local federations can determine the teams that will participate in the European trophies next season, unless the proper environment for leagues starts.
• - UEFA reserves the right to refuse selected clubs if local federations make decisions away from the principles of objectivity and transparency when choosing teams to participate in European trophies.
• - EURO 2020 will be played with the same name, postponed to 2021 due to the epidemic.
• - The next meeting of the board will be held on 27 May 2020.
