Manchester United, which had a very turbulent week after losing to Liverpool 5-0 at home last weekend and having a historic loss, came back to life in Tottenham's away game.
Cristiano Ronaldo, who was the target of criticism, also contributed to the 3-0 score with one goal and one assist.
The Portuguese star also dismissed recent critics of United as 'garbage', saying he never cared about public perception.
In a statement to the club's official website after the match, Ronaldo said:
"There will always be criticism. It doesn't bother me because I've been playing football for 18 years. I know people will call us 'excellent' one day and 'lousy' the next.
I know that and we have to deal with it, but it's always better when people praise you and are happy with you.
Sometimes life is like that, sometimes we have to go through bad times and we have to change and today we have changed.
"The team was under some pressure, a little upset, but we knew we could give a good response today. We played well, we started the game very well.
"Of course my job is to help the team with my experience, my goals, my assists and that's what I did today. I'm very happy about that. For me it was an incredible performance for the team as well."
