Real Madrid President Florentino Perez: we act as if we dropped a nuclear bomb

The Spanish manager still believes there will be a separatist organization to replace the Champions League.

Real Madrid President Florentino Perez reiterates that he thinks the European Super League can "save football", saying his plan has received more than necessary backlash.

Perez is at the forefront of efforts to form the crumbling European Super League following the withdrawal of six English clubs and Atletico Madrid and Milan.

The Real Madrid boss, who has been criticized by Javier Tebas, the head of the LaLiga association, remains committed to the Super League idea and says he believes football could be exactly what it needs after the economic difficulties from the coronavirus outbreak.

Speaking to Spanish channel El Larguero, Perez said, "UEFA had a show that I was completely surprised." says.

"It's like we dropped a nuclear bomb. What did we do wrong? Maybe we presented it badly, but why didn't they let us talk about it?"

"It's not fair for 6 clubs in England to lose and 14 clubs to win, big clubs in Spain are losing money and small clubs are making money. Football is a pyramid. If there is money at the top, then the money flows down and everyone gets some."

"At the top of tennis, Roger Federer has to play against Rafael Nadal. People are not going to see Nadal against 80th in the world.

"I've never seen such aggression from the UEFA president and from the local leagues before. It looked regulated. Insults, threats, like we killed football. We were trying to save football."

Despite the disruption of the European Super League, Perez thinks it could be a replacement for the Champions League, which he describes as "obsolete".

"I'm sorry and disappointed."

"We've been working on this for years, and we want to see how we can make things better in terms of football and the economy."

"Leagues are sacred. What we can change is the midweek matches. The Champions League is outdated."

"We are open to the emergence of another option from the Super League."

"This organization is not about wealth and poverty."
