Ronald de Boer finds the reactions to his brother Frank's preferred 5-3-2 formation in the Netherlands national team natural. Using the phrase "Cruyff would turn over in his grave if he saw this," De Boer believes that there is room for this line-up in the international arena despite everything.
The Netherlands, which drew 2-2 with Scotland in the first friendly match before Euro 2020, escaped the defeat with the goal scored by Memphis Depay in the 89th minute.
Instead of the classic 4-3-3 against Scotland, the oranges tried a more defensive formation. After the match, the number of people who criticized Frank de Boer for this choice was high. Ronald de Boer, on the other hand, likes to look at the glass both half full and empty.
Speaking to De Telegraaf, De Boer made an interesting comment about the formation of the Netherlands.
“Johan Cruyff would turn over in his grave if he saw it. But it would be the same if he saw Barcelona playing football with Ronald Koeman."
“If you are playing against two strong opponents, it is useful to add one more player between the centre-backs. In this way, you can keep the defense strong and then attack.”
