Ronaldinho arrested in Paraguay

Brazilian former star Ronaldinho, who was detained in Paraguay for allegedly holding a fake passport, was arrested.

According to a press release by Gilberto Fleitas, director of the Paraguay law enforcement agency, the request from the prosecutor's office to refuse Ronaldinho and his brother Assis, other than arrest, was not accepted and the two were arrested.

It was stated that prosecutor Federico Delfino's request to release an alternative punishment by the release of his football player and brother was rejected by judge Mirko Valinotti, and Ronaldinho was arrested from the hotel where he was detained in Asuncion, the capital of Paraguay.

Ronaldinho and Assis, whose investigations are continuing, are expected to face the judge again today.

In a statement yesterday, Delfino said that although the two accepted that they entered the country with false papers, they carried out this action unintentionally and therefore would be sentenced to an alternative punishment instead of arrest.

Ronaldinho and his brother Assis, who entered the country to attend a charity event in Paraguay's capital, Asuncion, were detained on the grounds that they used a fake passport during the identity check at their hotel. Ronaldinho, one of the most talented midfielder players in the world, played in European teams such as Paris Saint-Germain, Milan and Barcelona during his football career in 2015.
