Joan Laporta, the winner of the presidential elections held in Barcelona on 7 March, will assume the post of Barça's president.
With 54.3 percent of the votes, Joan Laporta comfortably defeated rivals Victor Font (30%) and Toni Freixa (9%) and took the helm of the club for the second time.
The Catalan giant achieved successful results in the first period when Laporta took over the presidency of Barcelona.
He became the head of the club in 2003 and after seven years handed over the best team in the world.
He has worked with stars such as Pep Guardiola, Andres Iniesta, Xavi, and Lionel Messi.
Laporta's second term will be more complicated.
In the arms of the financial crisis, Barcelona will have to cut its spending in the coming months. Also, Lionel Messi's contract expires next summer.
Laporta had said that his first job was to keep Messi in the team.
When asked whether he will contact Messi and his circle, the new president of Barcelona, "Why tomorrow? I can talk tonight, the night is long." said.
Joan Laporta sees these elections as the most important in Barcelona's history.
"One of the most important picks in FC Barcelona history, organized in an exemplary style."
Victor Font pointed out in his statements to TV3 that they had a democratic campaign process.
"It was a constructive campaign process. It's good for Barcelona to be celebrating such a democratic day and being able to congratulate the winner."
"Of course not the results we want, but I want to thank the thousands of Catalans who supported and trusted us."
