Kylian Mbappe's 80th minute goal for France in the Nations League final against Spain on Sunday was widely criticized but deemed valid.

The Spaniards claimed Mbappe was offside before he scored—and it certainly looked that way at first glance—but the referees said Eric Garcia's last-minute interference made the goal valid.

Spain captain Sergio Busquets said this explanation "doesn't make sense" after the 2-1 defeat.

"The second goal in the game felt like offside to us," Busquets told El Chiringuito TV.

"Eric tried to stop the ball but didn't play and lost control."

Eric Garcia also used the following statements after the match:

"It was clearly offside. The referee told me I was trying to tackle the ball. What should I do? Step aside and let him run? It seems like that's the rule."
